Meet the Team Behind BAS Advisory Group
With over 35 years of combined experience in accounting and bookkeeping, BAS Advisory Group is led by Darren McMahon and Matthew Burnett. Together, we bring deep expertise in cloud-based bookkeeping, BAS compliance, workflow automation, and mentoring bookkeepers.
Our Story
Darren McMahon brings extensive experience in the accounting and bookkeeping industry. His background includes 15 years in public practice and 5 years in commerce before founding Dardee Pty Ltd in 2010. A strong advocate for cloud-based solutions, Darren has spent many years helping bookkeepers and small businesses streamline processes through automation and efficient workflows. His passion lies in training, mentoring, and fostering collaboration within the bookkeeping and accounting community.
Matthew Burnett combines formal accounting qualifications with practical, hands-on experience gained from building and operating his own bookkeeping practice, Open Bookkeeping Australia. Matt brings a strong understanding of BAS preparation, compliance obligations, and the real-world challenges faced by bookkeepers working toward BAS agent registration, informed by his own progression through the BAS supervision pathway.
His broader background in government investigations, work health and safety, and emergency services has shaped a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to compliance, risk management, and process improvement, which underpins his contribution to the structure and delivery of the BAS Advisory Group program.

We created BAS Advisory Group to address a clear gap in the industry: providing affordable, accessible BAS supervision that enables independent bookkeepers to meet TPB requirements without losing control of their own businesses.
By combining Darren’s decades of mentoring experience with Matt’s firsthand understanding of the BAS supervision process and compliance-focused mindset, we’ve developed a program that is both compliant and practical.
