Meet the Team Behind BAS Advisory Group
With over 35 years of combined experience in accounting and bookkeeping, BAS Advisory Group is led by Darren McMahon and Matthew Burnett. Together, we bring a depth of knowledge in cloud-based bookkeeping, BAS compliance, workflow automation, and mentoring bookkeepers.
Our Story
Darren brings extensive experience in the industry. His background includes 15 years in public practice and 5 years in commerce before founding Dardee Pty Ltd in 2010. A strong advocate for cloud solutions, Darren has spent years helping bookkeepers and small businesses streamline processes through automation and efficient workflows. His passion lies in training, support, and fostering collaboration within the bookkeeping and accounting community.
Matt combines his formal accounting qualifications with practical, hands-on experience gained from building his own practice, Open Bookkeeping Australia. Importantly, Matt has lived the BAS supervision journey himself — he understands the challenges of finding the right supervisor, meeting the TPB’s 1,000-hour requirement, and balancing compliance with running a bookkeeping business.
This unique perspective gives Matt real-world insight into what new bookkeepers truly need to succeed and stay compliant while growing their businesses.
